Most Expensive Wines Ever Sold By Category |

We've heard of some of the world's most expensive bottles of wine before, such as Thomas Jefferson's which sold for $160,000, but there are many wines which have sold for extreme prices categorized by varietal or type of sale. One of my personal favorite's is the most expensive bottle ever broken, a Chateau Margaux 1787, tipped off the table by a passing waiter! Fortunately it was insured and the owner received $225,000 from the insurance company. It is also great to know that wine often is sold for a lofty price in order to support a charitable cause. In this case An Imperial of Screaming Eagle Cabernet 1992, sold in 2000 at a Napa Valley Wine Auction, went for $500,000, making it the highest price ever paid for a bottle of vino!
